The only really tangible benefit is Merlin 16, which assembles quite a bit faster than Merlin 8 and has a much nicer editor. '816 code is more compact than equivalent 6502. However, this benefit is totally eclipsed by the benefit of an accelerator, and replacing the processor core in a Zip Chip is shall we say "non -trivial" ;-)

If you've got an original Transwarp, you can do both by replacing the Transwarp's CPU with an '816.

There's a lot of fun projects for people keen on this sort of thing. You could for example save a *lot* of precious memory space in the language card by recoding ProDOS in 816 assembler ...
