Need help with AsanteTalk bridge

Hello:

Recently I dug out my IIGS and have been trying to get it to
communicate with my Linux server running Netatalk 2.1.5 which seeds a
single AppleTalk zone. I know Netatalk is working properly because my
Mac running OS 8 can see the zone and connect to the Netatalk server
just fine using its ethernet interface via AppleTalk.

I hooked up an AsanteTalk bridge to the Mac to make sure it is working
properly, by connecting the Printer port on the Mac to the AsanteTalk
via the included serial cable that came with the AsanteTalk. Then I
hooked the AsanteTalk to my ethernet network. On the Mac I went into
the AppleTalk control panel and changed it to Printer port, but it
cannot see the AppleTalk zone. Shouldn't the bridge allow the Mac to
see the AppleTalk zone? My understanding is that it should. My plan
was to hook the bridge to the IIGS once I confirmed it is working from
the Mac. I did try to use the bridge the IIGS anyway, but on the IIGS
when I open the AppleShare control panel, it locks up. I've confirmed
the IIGS is working by hooking a cable from it to the Mac and it can
see the Mac. But I cannot figure out how to get the bridge to work
with the IIGS or the Mac.

If anybody has any experience with the IIGS and the AsanteTalk and
Netatalk , please let me know if you have any ideas. I haven't tried
messing with these bridges and AppleShare before on the IIGS, but
would really like to get it to work.

Thanks much!
