I should also point out that the 74S series has a high output power rating,
so if your daughter expresses herself forcefully, she is an even better
match to that series. Otherwise she might be more of a 74ALS07 type of
person.

I didn't think that Radio Shack carried TTL IC's any more, but I haven't
looked in one of their catalogs for ages. Two sources for 7407's would be
Newark and Jameco. Also, many commercial electronics-repair supply stores
can get IC's for you. They probably just order them from Newark, but that
works, too.

Odds are good that any 74x07 IC would work, be it LS, ALS, S, F, or HCT, as
the Apple II is a slow computer. But if you can find a real 7407 I would try
to stay with the original. I would stay way from the 74HC07 and would have
serious reservations about using any CMOS substitute except for the HCT,
which is designed to work with TTL.
