--> IIRC, GeoWorks wouldn't work on an Apple 2 system, unless there
    was a mouse (card).  This card may have been Berkley Softworks
    response to those who wanted to run GeoWorks on a mouseless system.
    I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong.

It added hardware interrupts as the mouse card did. It wasn't needed for the //c or IIgs.
