Re: How to transfer files from Internet to Apple IIGS

One caveat I forgot to mention is that the DOS FST hates the long file
names. Or it hates the tilde (~) character in the file names. If any
files or folders have a long file name or a tilde character, the disk
will appear blank and be unusable to the IIgs. I've had to reformat the
disks and start over to correct this issue. So when you transfer stuff,
make sure you have renamed the files to a standard 8.3 format _before_
placing them onto the diskette for transfer.

Another tip for you, use an FTP program or IE instead of Netscape to
download your files or they may not uncompress once on the IIgs.
(That's another discussion.)

Thankx,
Ed

BTW, I followed my own instructions a couple hours ago and purchased one
of those 'super drive' controllers cards. The guy there says he has "a
bunch of em". Whatever that means, I suspect I did not get the last
one. ($65 with Credit card and shipping UPS ground.) Of course I do
already have the 1.44 mechanisms in my IIgs drive cases.
