If you want to avoid having to rename all your FAT filenames to the
8.3 format you can use Peter Watson's shareware NDA MUG! to read/write
MS-DOS formatted disks.  Here is a quote from the MUG! v1.01 read me
file:

     What are the benefits of MUG! over Apple's MSDOS FST? For 
     reading from MSDOS disks, not a lot - except that the MSDOS FST
     can't handle disks containing long file names created by
     Windows 95, or partitioned disks (eg. Zip or SyQuest 
     cartridges) or Applied Engineering PC Transporter (AEPCT) MSDOS 
     partition files, and it does not do any text file conversion 
     when copying files. Well, maybe there *are* a few benefits 
     after all!

Don't forget that MUG! also lets you WRITE to MS-DOS formatted disks
as well.

I also seem to recall a discussion about the MS-DOS FST choking on
MS-DOS disks that didn't have a volume name but MUG! would also handle
those okay if I remember correctly.
