There was a program from wayyyy back when called 'VCR creator.'  
Broderbund software published it.  Basically it was a program designed to 
do basic titling and animation for output to a VCR.  It was a neat piece 
of software, but obviously limited in the sense you couldn't overlay the 
graphical text over video.  My copy is long since deceased (head crashing 
IIe drive :(      ).

I checked Asimov and didn't see it on there, but I'm sure somebody out 
there may have it.
