Unidisk 3.5" help

My son (age 4 1/2) was fooling around with daddy's computer. He stuck an
old, unuseable disk into one of the 3.5" drives. At some point, the drive
light came on and stayed on. I finally managed to get the drive to turn
off, but then I was unable to eject the disk.

I finally resorted to taking the case apart and then getting the drive
out. While I really didn't want to that, it was obvious that was the only
way to get the disk out. The arm that goes into the cutout on the side of
the disk was stuck there. I had to manually retract the arm to get the
disk out.

After working with it for some time, I got to where I was able to insert
and eject disks fairly reliably. Though sometimes the disk won't go all
the way in without an extra push.

My problem is that some disks (known to be good) cannot be read in that
drive and others can only be read intermittently. I always make the sure
the disk is fully inserted. I would guess this is an alignment problem,
but how can I tell for sure and what can I do about it?
