Re: Ridiculous eBay pricing

There was a recent auction for an Apple /// external disk drive and it was at 11.10 and I needed it to coomplete and Apple // system so at the last minute I dropped $40 on it at the end of auction which was a good idea since it went for $29. This item is relatively rare and it was worth every dollar to save me time in looking for a "good" deal. Time is money too.

I have noticed that the same group of people tend to bid on the same items I do and we usually "compete" for items politely. Sometimes its just that competition that Ebay just loves!

I live in the Dallas TX area and old computer hardware up to pentium 166s are normally considered scrap. Where my uncle happens to live there are no computer businesses within 150 miles so Ebay and mail order are really his only options.

Thank You.
Pete.

Not even going to look at the auction. eBay seems to instill in some
people an urge to win that's so strong they'll pay more for something
than theyreally should. It's very common. I think I succumbed once
(only by a few bucks, happily). Just yesterday I saw something that I
was potentially interested in that had been driven up to a ridiculous
price. It was a collectible magazine issue with hours to go and a top
bid over $70. Thing is, there's a well-known dealer who'll sell you a
NM copy of that same issue for $25. He's very reputable and has NM
copies on hand. But at least two people thought it was worth a lot more
than that.
