While traveling the net, watching eBay, etc, I have amassed quite a
large collection of game boxes scans, incl. contents, disks, etc.
i.e. just pictures of everything. I am also collecting scans of Apple
book covers.
Basically, I'm collecting all of the pictures I see for anything Apple
1, ][, ///, and even GS related. So far, I have more than 42 MB of
images in 660+ files.
In the meantime, while the collecting is going on, it's all just
sitting on my hard-drive (& backed up).
Wondering if anyone else out there is also collecting this stuff ?
Has anyone set-up a web / ftp site for it ?
If there is no web / ftp site already for this stuff, then eventually
it will probably be uploaded to Asimov (if they want it) or somewhere
else.
If collecting this stuff is beginning now, then one thing we need to
agree is a naming convention for the files. I'd like to propose:
<game name> - <publisher> <year> - <item type> <sequence number
(optional)>
For example:
AlienGame (UNKNOWN NAME) - Southwestern Data Systems 1981 - back.jpg
AlienGame (UNKNOWN NAME) - Southwestern Data Systems 1981 - disk.jpg
AlienGame (UNKNOWN NAME) - Southwestern Data Systems 1981 - front.jpg
AlienGame (UNKNOWN NAME) - Southwestern Data Systems 1981 -
contents.jpg
If I have multiple different images for each item, then I tack a
sequence number on the end, for example:
Alge Blaster Math Software - Davidson & Associates Inc 1986 - contents
01.jpg
Alge Blaster Math Software - Davidson & Associates Inc 1986 - contents
02.jpg
At this stage, I'm just collecting the best, highest-res pictures I
can find. I'm not doing any cropping, rotating, tidying up on the
images - that will probably come later.
Anyone want to help / pool our resources and work on this together ?
Especially looking for people who also like to keep an eye on
eBay .... Anyone like this idea of collecting all of this stuff ?
Anyone want to join in ? Anyone own original games / boxes that they
can scan ? Anyone have any scans they can add to the collection ?
Anyone suggest where we should pool our material until it is ready for
uploading to a final home (like Asimov) ? Ideally, somewhere with FTP
read/write/erase access.
I've suggested several projects like this in the past. e.g. for
collecting disk images of original games (without cracker intros,
etc). Sadly, most people at the time "shouted down" this project.
