Robot based on/Controlled by Apple II

a long time ago, i heard some talk about people who designed and built some 
robots that were controlled or based around the Apple II+...  I was wondering 
if anyone has ever released their designs and plans to the public...  I still 
have a few Apple II's that i think can still work and would like to get into 
this type of hobby...  

Someone once told me that there were college students who built such beasts 
for lab projects and experiments...  

If anyone can point me in the right direction...
