Re: apple ][ adoption... where to start from?

Hi,
I'm an italian retrocomputerist. Recently a friend of mine in our group
decided to start a project of "machine adoption", i.e. he will give some of
his machines to some of us to make experience with them and learn them in
order for everyone to be experienced in one single machine.

As I have a passion for Apple computeers, but I do own and use only some
Macs, I decided to ask him to borrow me one of his Apple ][, because I'd
like to learn everything (almost :O)... ) about that marvellous computer.

I already looked for some links on the web, and I found a lot of image
disks, prodos commands lists, emulators and so on, but what I didn't find is
a guide for absolute beginners (which I'd really need).

Could some of you indicate me where can I found one (or also the scanned
version of the user guide, would be excellent for me) ?

thanks a lot

leonardo

This is a tough question... There are a few places on the net which may be useful. You could go to http://www.textfiles.com/apple and see what they have there. I may have the URL wrong, but it is close.

I wrote something about some basic information in our magazine (top link in the .signature at the bottom). We try to maintain a section on older (legacy) machines. It may have been relegated to the back issues by now.

A while back someone posted something called "the red book" which was basically a guide to the Apple// about the time of the //e and //c. You might be able to find it in the archives at http://www.google.com if you look for this newsgroup.

Mike Westerfield has some excellent resources. If I recall correctly they can be found at the Syndicom archives. In this case I can't remember the URL off the top of my head but you can either wait until someone posts it or check the archives for our magazine for the first couple of press releases by Syndicom.

The FAQs (which you just missed) are also very good. They are posted once per month. You can also check the google archives for this newsgroup to find them if you don't want to wait.

This is all I can think of at the moment. This doesn't mean this is all there is.
