apple ][ adoption... where to start from?

Hi,
I'm an italian retrocomputerist. Recently a friend of mine in our group
decided to start a project of  "machine adoption", i.e. he will give some of
his machines to some of us to make experience with them and learn them in
order for everyone to be experienced in one single machine.

As I have a passion for Apple computeers, but I do own and use only some
Macs, I decided to ask him to borrow me one of his Apple ][, because I'd
like to learn everything (almost :O)... ) about that marvellous computer.

I already looked for some links on the web, and I found a lot of image
disks, prodos commands lists, emulators and so on, but what I didn't find is
a guide for absolute beginners (which I'd really need).

Could some of you indicate me where can I found one (or also the scanned
version of the user guide, would be excellent for me) ?
