All right. I could use some advice from the experts, here.
For archival purposes, I'm looking to make some portable backups of my old
IIGS software. I want to make disk images, transfer them to a PC, burn
them to CD, and then have them available for use on emulators forevermore.
The best way to do this appears to be SheppyWare's ImageMaker
( http://www.sheppyware.net/products/a2/imagemaker/ ), which says it'll
copy even bad blocks--meaning I can back up my old copy-protected games,
too. Any arguments so far?
To do this, however, I need to get ImageMaker running under a IIGS.
Here's where the problems start. I have available to me a IIGS with 2
floppy drives, but no hard drive. I also have a Quadra 68k Mac, which I
feel confident (heh...) I can get the iGS-Mac emulator running on. Will I
be able to use ImageMaker on my IIGS, create disk images from floppies and
write them onto floppies, then move those floppies to the Mac, and copy
the new 2mg file over to the Mac HD? (At which point I can get it over to
a PC for CD-burning.)
Alternatively, if that's impractical without a IIGS HD, can I, under
iGS-Mac, directly access a ProDos floppy in the Mac drive and use
ImageMaker to create a disk image? (In other words, does iGS-Mac allow
access to real, and not just virtual, devices?) At that point, can I move
the 2mg file from the iGS virtual HD to the 'real' Mac HD?
Sigh. Rereading what I just wrote, I can barely understand it myself. But
I'll persevere. And would greatly appreciate help. Are either of those two
methods plausible? If not, what should I do? Or am I being wrongheaded
about the whole thing?
Many thanks!
