Back when OS/2 was at its peak (of popularity) a friend of mine was shocked
to discover that a couple of chatty "technophiles" were not even aware that
OS/2 existed, so it is doubtful that everybody knows what Linux is.  I have
had people use my Linux box for months on end, and they thought that they were
running MacOS (it is Apple hardware).

Yes, I agree that Windows users do it to themselfs and I think that it would
be great if there was more diversity in the market (yes, there is even a place
for Windows).  It would be even better if that diversity allowed for older
machines, so that my Apple II and Quadra would be acceptable machines online.
After all, email, usenet and the type of research I do online rarely needs the
ability to handle images or fancy formatting.  Why can't I use these machines
without facing roadblocks at every turn?
