The only advantage which occurs to me would be any bug fixes which may
have been included in the later firmware versions.  I know that version
4 fixes bugs from version 3, but I don't know whether any of these bugs
affect earlier versions.

My main reason for mentioning this was because many years ago I posted a
similar answer to yours in explanation of the IIc firmware revisions,
and someone else said that they had a IIc with the original logic board
but revision 3 or 4 firmware.  I forget why they had this unusual
configuration.
