I'm not explaining very well. Do not dump the GS System folder to root!
The System (GSOS folder) belongs in the root directory. The 'System
Folder' (Mac folder) also at the root level should contain files like
'Apple //e Boot Blocks' 'ProDOS16 Boot Blocks' 'ProDOS16 Image' and
perhaps others. There should be a folder named 'Users' in the root
directory. It sounds like you have all this setup OK since the GS boot
process begins. I vaguely remember having to to set GS startup
(SetStart.Sys16 ?) to start the finder on the server (eg
/Harddisk/System/Finder) or GSOS didn't know what to do.

I guess I was lucky at the beginning. I got network booting working the
first day, not neccessarily the first time ;-) This sys5.0.4 and I
updated to Sys6.0 and sys6.01 with no problems, even went from
appleshare3.0 to 3.0.3 without missing a beat. Knock on wood!

My one caveat: I am using a IIeGS Rom1. (IIe case with IIGS Rom1 upgrade
board.) Other than using a IIe keyboard, this should be the same as any
Rom1 IIGS. Another point which I don't think is related: I have to have
DMA 'off' on my apple high-speed SCSI controller. But I had the IIGS
netbooting before I had the SCSI card. (Because of the SCSI card, I no
longer netboot, but do auto-login to server with each boot.)

So, despite other people's experiences, I am still certain a Rom1 can
network boot from an Appleshare3.0x server. I do it!

Good luck!
