I just want to reiterate that a Rom01 IIGS DOES boot from an Appleshare3.0
server. I have booted at different times in the past from GSOS 5.0.4,
6.0, and now 6.0.1. I think each of these versions required a different
AppleII setup disk. Make sure you are using the proper server setup disk
with the version of GSOS you are using. P8 boots probably don't matter
very much about version compatibility (I don't know). but the SYS16 boot
is version specific.
Hint: Make sure the path names for the server are prodos legal
(Alphanumeric + '.'), no spaces, 16chars or less per volume/directory
level. I vaguely recall not being able to setup the boot from a directory
on the server, so I shared the whole volume and the GSOS files are in the
servers root directory. It works and I never investigated further trying
to boot from a subdirectory on the server. Some other fine points to
remember AFTER you get bootup to work: some setup and config files are
stored in the /Users/<user>/Setup/ folder and not in the GS System folder.
I think the idea was that more than one user could network boot and each
user could have a unique GSOS environment. I boot several IIe's from the
network, but only 1 GS, so I don't know how well this works in practice.
Good luck!
