I should have been more clear too: I have booted to GS/OS 6.0.1 from both ROM 
01s and ROM 03s this way, and I too have a IIe/GS "upgrade" and I also have the 
DMA turned off for my AHS SCSI on that one, and it works  (Ramworks III 
memory). 
My main screamer GS is a ROM 03 and it boots from the Mac fine.  I have done it 
from the ROM 01 "Upgrade" too and from a standard (well, is any of my junk 
REALLY standard? ;)  ROM 01.  these two  get to the Mac Appleshare 
3.0.3 "server" via a round about route; that mac is on ethernet, these guys are 
on a Localtalk leg plugged into a Quadra 950 running Localtalk Bridge.  I have 
also experimented with a SE running System 6 then dedicated to Appleshare 2.0 
and set up as a Apple II login server.  It worked, but not well.
