Tim, it sounds strange, but on some LC's, if the motherboard battery
is dead, you will get a grey screen and bad sync.  I purchased several
LC's from a thrift store and was able to get them functioning using an
IBM type multi-sync monitor (NEC Multisync XV-15)  with an adaptor
from Beldon  "Mac-VGA Adaptor F3H1381" (at CompUSA).  Plug the adaptor
into the LC and the VGA cable into the other end of the adaptor.  The
adaptor has switches on it to select where the sync signal comes from.
The adaptor will only help if you are using an IBM monitor and the LC
will NOT work with the standard Apple GS Monitor.  You can also check
Apple's website to see what the sync frequency of your Apple monitor
is and if it will work with the LC; but check the battery first as it
is a cheap fix.
