And in Windows, a right-click/Send To.../ opens a file in any app
you put in the Send To directory--very similar capability.
I haven't used MacOS much beyond 7.x, but recall that many of
my attempts to download .jpg's resulted in "un-typed" documents,
and dropping them on a JPG viewer didn't do much good. Double
clicking them just got me a TeachText dialog, and nothing useful.
(On a PC, I simply rename them ".jpg" and all is well--without any
alteration to the time-date stamp.)
Digital Photography has its own pervasive data standards, apart
from any particular applications, and this is clearly not the model
that the Mac interface, or any pure type-association interface,
was intended to facilitate. Drag-and-drop on an application icon
is problematic with 50-100 applications, most of which are "hiding"
behind in-use windows.
