56K Mac modem

Back when I knew less than I know now, I bought a 33.6K Mac modem. I was listening to the rhetoric of the friend with a pc that you can't do 56K so you waste your money buying a 56k modem. So I bought a 33.6k modem. It was quite a bit cheaper than the 56k so I thought I got a good deal. The problem was when I started working with Spectrum which controls the port speed, I discovered it jumped from 19.9k to 38k. Supertimer said I could use 38k with the 33.6 modem and that was true as far as surfing we
nt. Downloading required slowing to 19k.

With the last couple of upgrades (add a 12.5Mhz TransWarp) between Spectrum and the ISP downloading works at 38k. Soooooooo................

I just got my 56k modem today. And lo the isp says we're logging on at 56k. I don't know if it's a true 56k, but it'd definitely faster than 33.6. So far so good. I am so awed. As many times as my hubby and son complain about the bad phone lines and the 26.4k of the pc....the shell account or whatever is different for the GS works many times better.

I never thought I get caught up in wanting more speed. Now I need to learn how to type faster.
