...and in response to William's question about whether to plug
it into an Apple prior to repairing the LM386 amplifier:  don't.

The partially ablated gold contact, if it is a power or ground pin,
indicates that the excessive currents that fried the (output
shorted?) amplifier chip were enough to zap contacts.

Replace the fried chip and _then_ check it out--being ready
to cut the power if there is any sign of overloading.
