If you read Rubywand's FAQ on power supplies that will help you. Also when
you are checking the boards, try looking on the underside of the circuit
board very closely. On a couple I have fixed for a IIe there was distinct
corrosion on the solder joints and nearby tracks on the "failed capacitors".
A black or dark grey dryish solder joint. If you see this anywhere this is a
sure sign of a faulty PSU. The solder on these joints does not melt very
easily at all, in fact I had to crank my iron right up just to get the old
caps out, then use an abrasive rubber to clean up the tracks.

Others have suggested bridging capacitors, while that may work, I found it
easier to simply remove the suspects and test them. This is because it's a
bit difficult to re-assemble the supply with capacitors bridged on the back
of the board, and leaving it all hanging out is too dangerous with the power
on, especially with all the metal casing in the way.
