Yes, by the time packing materials are included, 14 pounds isn't bad.

The greater danger (happened to me 2 out of 3 times) is that the back
corners of the Apple are not suitably cushioned, and they and the
rear upper cross brace are broken in shipment.

The later //e's are notoriously structurally weak in the back corners.
Going to the metal backplate left the plastic top very weak just where
all the stress will concentrate if the apple is dropped on a rear corner.
