Apple didn't own the "Apple" copyright to begin with. In Paul McCartney's
autoboigraphy, Many Years From Now, he says that one of the first things The
Beatles did when they set up Apple was to copyright the name, which was then
licensed to Apple later on. So the Apple copyright was never theirs to sell.
