8-bit Appleworks files

Hope someone can help my foggy memory. Do Appleworks files (the 8-bit
kind) contain the characters as recognizable text? Specifically, if I
(who have no access to any Apple II machine) read my files on a 3.5
inch floppy on a Mac, will I be able to send a text file to my Windoze
machine? WP files are my main concern, but I might try to get data
from DB and SS files too if it works.
If the answer is no, are there any helpful people who perform
translations for hire or for some kind of favor trade? A quick search
on Google did not turn up any Apple 2 services, but I hope this group
would have the best leads.
Thanks very much
George Randall
