I'm not certain, but it sounds like it could be the (circa 1978)
Apple II Communications Card. If it is, it would only support a
limited serial connection up to 300 bits per second and I'm not
even certain it could be used in a null-modem configuration
(I'm just going from memory here).
It predates the Apple Super Serial Card which replaced the
Communications Card and Serial Interface Card.
