I find FILERs user interface to be a giant leap backwards from the
four-years-older FID. The constant insistence on forcing volumne names
down the user's throat when Slot/Drive is simply easier to do on
floppies. The insistence on me entering a wild card "=" just to see
the directory of a disk. The "we tried to be nontechnical but didn't
quite make it" help texts. The "why use an easy solution when there's
also a complex one" feel. Aaaarrrgggghhhh. Though I do like that it's
really picky about floppy disk quality while formatting, much more so
than 3.3, which should boost media reliability in the long run. As
I've only seen the later sysutil.system on Emulators I can only assume
that this feature was retained.
