Re: Accessing Appletalk file shares on a IIgs
David,
Thanks for straightening me out. Crossing the Ts and dotting the Is.
Its always better if exact wording is used when trying to explain something
to someone that hasn't done it before, and I failed there a little.
I wanted to set up zones, because:
1. My network is split between upstairs and downstairs.
2. So I could learn how to use it and set it up.
3. Because I want to LocalTalk my ImageWriter II, yep won a IWII LocalTalk
kit today on e-bay :) :) :) and that printer will be downstairs while the
Mac upstairs is connected to an Epson 740 (not Empson sorry !!!), so I
thought it should be zoned off.
Well since I need a router, I'll give that the big A, because I wouldn't
know what to do with it even if I tripped over one. :) The only router's
I've used are for cutting channels in timber. :)
I realized the HFS.FST was probably not needed, but now you've confirmed
that.
My LocalTalk connectors ARE Apple ones, so I guess I can leave the
terminators in hey ? The instructions say otherwise. If I leave the
terminator in the middle one and leave that machine off, will the rest of
the network run OK. I guess I could try this as it's a simple test.
The System 6 user manual seems to indicate that you CAN boot GS/OS through
the network using a GS without any drives. Is that where Appleshare 3 comes
in ?
thanks again for the good info,
Mark
