Dirty IIc keyboard

I recently rescued an Apple IIc (complete) from the dumpster.  When I got it
home, though, I saw that someone had spilled something sticky into the
keyboard.  Is there a safe, effective way to clean this?  Can I just soak it in
mild detergent, rinse it, and let it dry?  If not, what should I do?  Since
everything else seems to be working with it, I'd like to put the old girl back
in shape. Any help would be appreciated.
