Formatting a 800k disk with HFS under the finder and dragging your GS stuff
onto it and transferring to the Mac should work.  Sandy

Yeah I've tried all the tricks too, and for some reason, my particular
Mac(s) or GS(s) get cranky with each other. The cover-the-hole trick is the
first one I tried so you can format a 1.44 disk as 800K. *Sometimes*, I've
gotten it to work but most of the time I get read/write errors.

I have a buddy who swears by this. The thing is.....even though you cover
the hole and physically fool the SuperDrive, the densities of the disk
media are different, and sometimes you can get some pretty scrambled hash
*if* it copies at all.

I went and bought a dozen DS/DD 800K disks (for pennies these days) and
went by the book as to the copy routine. I have only had intermittent luck.
I've tried every way I can think of to do it, and the best so far is:
format the disk 800K PRODOS on the GS, drag stuff to it, and stick that in
the SuperDrive on the Mac where PC Exchange recognizes it, mounts it, and
then I drag it to the Bernie folder. Some people tell me (and the Bernie
folks say this too) that PC exchange is the culprit. I have no idea, I just
know that if I want a reliable transfer, and don't want to have to do it
over, I use AppleTalk. My GSs and Macs are always connected anyway, so it's
just a matter of drag and drop.
