Yep, the CP/M card, which ran CP/M 3.0 aka CP/M+:  it had its own 64K
of RAM for the first bank, and used the Apple's RAM for the second bank.

Why not GIF format?  GIF produces much smaller image files, and it
uses non-lossy compression.  Yes, it has few colors (max 256 colors),
but for scanned text and figures this is rather an advantage.

I don't really see any advantage in running CP/M on the IIgs (if you
mean CP/M-80 and not e.g. CP/M-86): CP/M can only address 64K RAM
anyway, and the CP/M cards for the Apple II already has that.  Extra
RAM must be put in other memory banks, which can only be used for
e.g. a RAM disk and, in the case of CP/M+, to store major parts of
CP/M itself in, freeing up still a few more KBytes to the
applications.
