Re: Appleworks max files?
I have the manual for CLARIS AppleWorks, which I believe is for version 3.0,
although it's not obvious anywhere on the book.
Appendix D lists the AppleWorks limits, this is a summary:
General:
Max Printers = 3
Max files on desktop = 12
Max files on a disk 50 at root, 170 in subdirectory
Desktop size = 40K for a 128K IIe or IIc, 76K for a 256K IIGS
Clipboard = limited by avail memory.
Word Processor:
Max document size = 16250 lines (-1 line for each page)
Practical document size = 680 lines on a 128K IIe or IIc, 680 lines for a
256K IIGS
Number of rulers : limited by memory
Number of words in dictionary = 83000
Max words and size of custom dictionary = limited by disk size
Data Base:
max characters per record = 2048
max categorys per record = 30
max records = 16250
practical record limit = >400@100 chars/rec for 128K IIe/IIc, >1800 @100
chars/rec for 256K IIGS
Spreadsheet:
max rows = 9999
max columns = 127
total empty cells = 1269873
max practical worksheet = 3000 cells for 128K IIe/IIc, 10000 cells for 256K
IIGS
max col width = 70 chars
max chars per row = 10000
Some of the patches for AppleWorks 3.0 have been released as freeware,
thanks to Howard Katz, they can be downloaded from:
http://lostclassics.a2central.com/bbros.html
Some of these may increase the above limits.
For earlier versions of AppleWorks like v2.0 other patches are available:
1. the RamWorks III (1Mb RAM) for the IIe came with a program called AW 2
Expander which has patches for AppleWorks 2.0. This increased the number of
records in the data base and the number of lines in a word processor
document to 22600.
2. for AppleWorks 1.0 - 1.3 the RamWorks II had another program called Super
Desktop Expander, similar to the above which gave a maximum of 15200 records
in the data base or lines in the word processor.
Your limit will obviously be determined by what hardware/software you have.
regards,
Mark
