That is one problem but the other is the lack of support for GCR in one of
these USB floppy drives. They will have an emebedded MFM controller which
is unable to read GCR disks at any frequency.

They are IIe Workstation cards (the //gs does not need one as it has the
hardware (Zilog serial chip) and firmware built in).
The software can be found in apple2ws.shk at ftp://tarnover.dyndns.org/Comm/
according to google.
