The IIc (and IIc+) are the only models which have built-in support for
the 9-pin mouse. They have digital inputs which allow detection of the
mouse movement, button state and presence of the mouse, with appropriate
interrupt generation capabilities.
The IIgs 9-pin game port is identical to the IIe one. It provides
support for two joysticks and three buttons. On the IIc, only one
joystick and two buttons are supported, with the spare pins used as part
of the connection to the mouse.
To use the 9-pin mouse on the IIe and IIgs, you need to use a mouse
interface card. In the case of a ROM 00/01 IIgs, the mouse will work
for 8-bit and native software. On the ROM 3 IIgs, native software only
works with the ADB mouse.
