Not that I'm condoning the use of a zip file containing the contents
of the Asimov site but, just because you made the file a
self-extracting file does not mean that you can't open that file with
an unzip utility and extract just the single file that you want.  Just
start WinZip or whatever utility you are using and tell it to open the
.EXE file.

Also, if you transfer a self-extracting zip file to you Apple II, I
wrote a utility a couple years ago called ZipStripper that would strip
the self-extracting part off and leave you just a standard zip file
that can then be unpacked with Apple II unzipping utilities.  However,
this wouldn't help in your case as ZipStripper is an 8 bit program so
can only access ProDOS volumes and is therefore limited to files of
16MB or smaller.  Also, ZipStripper isn't very fast.  :-)
