I would provide them a URL to this list of tips, assuming that they
will be cataloged, maintained, and published.

Not exactly true.  You can use tape without DOS.

I haven't read the entire FAQ, so this may be redundant:

1.  ADTPro is your friend.
2.  Use cc65 for ANSI int C/ASM programming.  Otherwise use Aztec C
for K&R with FP support.
3.  The //e is more fun than the //c.  Expandability.
3a. Get an enhanced //e.
4.  Use cash to purchase VISA giftcards for Apple II purchases so that
you can hide it from your wife.  :-)
5.  CP/M can be fun too, consider a Z80 card.
6.  80 columns is twice as fun as 40.  Make sure you have 128K and 80
columns.
7.  You can run Java code on the II.
8.  Share, share, share.  Blog, document, etc... all your adventures.
9.  Go to Kansasfest.
10. List of freely available or cheap good books.  Someone should
maintain this list and remove obscure or hard to get.  URL, mags,
etc... too.
