You mean a 9-pin D plug? I have seen modems which use these connectors, but
the DB25 is more common. PCs often have both DE9 and DB25 serial ports.

Just to complicate matters, Apple used DE9 serial ports on the Mac 128K and
512K, but they were wired differently than the PC DE9 ports. I haven't seen
any, but it's possible some Apple peripherals from the same period had the
Mac DE9 connector.

So your cable could be wired to either the Apple or PC standard.
