     Appleworks is pretty good about creating clean Text files. If want to edit
a Text file which contains codes which Appleworks normally screens out and you
want to retain the non-Text codes, then, yes, the resulting file will be
spoiled. (The Appleworks created Text file will have the characters removed.)

     An editor which should leave alone any weird codes is the one included in
Modem MGR. Modem MGR comes in DOS 3.3 and ProDOS versions.

     If the editing you want to do involves no changes in file length-- e.g. no
deletions or insertions-- the block editor included with ProSel (named "Block
Warden") will work.
