That's a 24 MByte image.... how were you going to resize it?  By
making it larger?  :-))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

But yes, OF COURSE there are applications which really do require a
lot of CPU power, e.g. image processing.  However, most users aren't
processing big images or other CPU intensive tasks all the time --
instead they're doing things like word processing, send/receive
email, etc, which can be done on an Apple II.  Yes, even for such
simple tasks, eye candy is nowadays often taken for granted.
 
Many of today's people would probably think it would be impossible
to write a short document in, say, 32K of RAM.
 
Finally: even image processing can be done without a powerful CPU and
many MBytes of RAM -- yes, even completely without a computer.
Image processing is many decades old, perhaps a century old, and was
and can still be done in photo labs.  The terminology was different
though; "resizing" was referred to as "enlarging", negatives and
slides had resolutions of up to 3000 DPI, and image contents was
more than a mere 24-bit image....
 
BTW, when we're talking about image processing, it's a quite
interesting phenomenon that people are prepared to pay MORE for a
camera which gives pictures of LOWER quality -- yes, I'm of course
referring to electronic vs traditonal cameras.
