Actually, I was making that 8.5x11 image smaller. I had scanned a color
photo and was resizing it for a family project.
I too have always wondered about the stampede to inferior digital cameras.
But then my wife came up with a use that paid for itself in a single
project. She has a pet-sitting business, and needed photos of all of her
customers' pets for a promotion she was doing. It is not a trivial task to
get good pictures of dogs and cats. The digital camera enabled her to take
dozens of pictures of each animal, evaluate them immediately, and discard
them on the spot if they weren't good enough. And yes, they are of
comparatively inferior quality, but they were more than good enough for her
purposes.
