Have you tried just turning it on? The top of the screen will tell you
what model you are using.
If the screen has more than one line of text when it is turned on, then
it's a IIgs. A IIc will just print one line that says 'Apple //c'. An
enhanced IIe will print 'Apple //e'. An unenhanced IIe or II+ will print
'APPLE ]['.
There is a bunch of memory locations you can look at with the PEEK
function in BASIC that will tell you what model you are using, but I won't
go into that here.
A IIgs is the Apple platinum color, and looks kind of like a (relatively
old) Macintosh Quadra. A IIc is white and short, kind of like a pizza box,
with a built-in keyboard. A platinum IIe is also platinum (duh!), has a
built-in keyboard with a numerical keypad (as opposed to the IIgs, where
the keyboard plugs in to the back), and is bigger than a IIgs. Other
models have a big, clunky beige case with a built-in keyboard with no
numerical keypad.
