Apple IIgs Hardware Reference -- includes schematic(s)
Apple IIgs Firmware Reference

from Apple, published by Addison-Wesley. For manuals which include
information on the ROM 3 model, look for second editions of the above.


     A fairly good 'all in one' book about the IIgs is Apple IIgs Technical
Reference by Fischer published by Osborne-McGraw-Hill. However, this book
seems to be pre-ROM-01; so, some information is out-dated. The book's
strengths are wide coverage and well written explanations.

     There are several other books which, mostly, deal with system firmware
and software (e.g. Apple IIgs Toolbox References 1-3, 'GS/OS Reference,
etc.). To obtain books, check with Byte Works ( http://www.byteworks.org ),
amazon.com, eBay, and comp.sys.apple2.marketplace .

     If this is your first Apple II, you will also want to get references for
Applesoft BASIC and DOS 3.3 as well as a reference for the II+ and/or IIe,
goodies like the Beagle PEEKS and POKES poster, etc.. IIgs manuals do not do
a very good job of covering 'old-Apple II' operation. For more ideas see
