It does. The UniDisk 3.5" on my //e has a HD mechanism in due to a failure
of the original unit. If you put a HD disk in it results in an I/O error
regardless of the operation you try to perform. I'd imagine that a
Superdrive connected to a IIgs smartport or a HDified Apple 3.5" would
behave the same way.
