You aren't imagining the reality that goes with this simple response I have
an Apple IIGS. The response from my ISP tech people is always "Oh you have a
Mac" No I have and Apple IIGS. As long as I have been doing business with
this place the bug report sheet fails to list my machine and OS. (6.0.1). It
gets a little funny because I have to fill in all the blanks in order to post
then I get a funny message saying that my message couldn't be sent. I
recommend the beginner to get an ISP nearby. I periodically go there and sit
with the tech and look at his PC looking at the text I see. The difficulty
is that the techs don't know squat about the GS or System 6.0.1 and it
doesn't matter anyway. Of course there is much ado with buying things like
Hewlett Packard printers. Get the scoop from Joe on that. Anytime I have
gone in to shop for an HP the sales person doesn't believe that my machine
can use their printer. And of course the biggest insult of all is to go to
an Apple store and ask the dealer for serial printer cables for a IIGS and
they will swear they don't have it. Of course I blew my two sons away because
I was able to use the 56K modem and do a very respectable 33.8k whenever I
connect. My husband's pc never does better than 28.8. I am amused by that
because the technical advisors on the radio always say it's the telephone
line. We use the same telephone line...so I like to think I have one of
those computers that doesn't have built in obsolescence. My computers are 2nd
hand and I have bought this and that card. Had I bought into the machine in
it's hayday, I wouldn't had the enjoyment I get out of it now. Get an
accelerator and Sonic Blaster and watch Megademo (wow what a trip to watch).
Hope the DSL works by the way. You never know until you try. Sandy
