What type of wire did you do the repair with? I may have gotten lucky with mine,
but I didn't use wire either. The needle I used was large enough to fit snug in
the connector and contact both sides. Plus I made sure the solder made a solid
contact with the connector. I put solder on the connector first and then
soldered the pin in place.
As long as the card edge is making connections 1/2 way in the slot, that should
be ok. You should make sure the contacts are clean.
It might be possible that your problems are from something else. Like a weak
power supply or the thin traces that some GS boards suffer from. A lot depends
on what other power hungry cards you have installed. My system finally started
showing some signs of this. Since I don't use a printer on it, I moved the
Focus to slot one which seems to have fixed things. The cool part, I can place
a bootable floppy in either the 5.25 or 3.5 drive and boot the system or leave
the drives empty and it boots the HD. I like this better than the slot 7 HD
setup.
