how do you do a BASIC POKE?

I got this cheat for an old apple 2 game but i dont know how to do a poke. 
this is what the message said to do dose anyone understand this?:"Load or reset
the game, then execute the following BASIC command before running or restarting
the program. POKE 3678,255 "
