file format list......

hi there,

I am thinking of buying a imac or at least converting over to Macintosh OS
again,(I had one about 6 years ago, loved the os!) but the file format
confused me a little (ok, a lot!) (the extensions of the end of a program,
diff from windows)

Could someone, tell me where to find a COMPLETE list of all those extensions
and the file which they are attached to please or give me a list.
