Perhaps it gives rules for pronunciation, making the speech output
easier to understand.

If you are interested in outputting speech from APpleworks, try the
echo!  I have the manual with all the commands to control the Echo, and
it will work without any modification to AppleWorks.

Some of the words will be hard to understand, but it works.
